Community Outreach

The Outreach Committee is charged with developing volunteer opportunities and charitable giving projects which reflect LTA’s tagline of “Leaders in Action.” In 2012, the committee’s focus will be on organizations and initiatives which seek to reduce unemployment and underemployment in Tampa.  Please check this page for information on upcoming events, as well for stories and pictures of recent events where Leadership Tampa Alumni made a difference in our community! Demonstrate your leadership by participating in our community outreach programs and showing that Leadership Tampa Alumni is making a difference in Tampa Bay.

2012 Recent Events

>> Goodwill Industries-Suncoast, Inc. – In conjunction with the Mayor’s Lunch on May 24th, the Community Outreach Committee held a charitable giving event to support Goodwill Industries-Suncoast, Inc. in their efforts to provide GED preparation, testing and job training to people in our community. facing major barriers to becoming employed and responsible citizens. Thanks to the generosity of our LTA members, we were able to raise over $1000 for Goodwill Industries-Suncoast, Inc.  To learn more go to www.goodwill-suncoast.org .

>> Alpha House – On April 14th, members of LTA spent the morning volunteering with their friends and family at Alpha House.  Located in South Tampa, Alpha House empowers pregnant and parenting women to break the cycles of poverty and abuse in order to create promising lives as productive members of our community.  LTA supported this mission by painting, landscaping and otherwise helping to maintain the Alpha House facilities.  In the process, we had a great time hanging out together and enjoying a perfect spring day! See event photos

Special thanks for making our day so successful goes to Outreach Committee members Natalie Bedore (LT ‘10), Jennifer McIntosh (LT ‘09) and Pat Moser (LT ‘08), as well as to Steve Stanford (LT ‘11) of Plantz,  Misha Hart (LT ’07) of A La Carte Event Pavilion, and Douglas J. Dieck of Ryan Companies US, Inc. for their generous donations.  Finally, we would like to thank Patricia Langford and Ellen Hochschwender of Alpha House for being such gracious hosts, and taking time to educate us about the important work done by their organization.

>> Dress For Success – The Outreach Committee’s first charitable giving event benefited Dress for Success and was held in conjunction with the Chairwoman’s Reception on February 23rd.  LTA members donated:
     • 80 interview-appropriate items of clothing;
     • more than 40 pairs of shoes, purses and belts;
     • $250 in gift cards. 
We offer our sincerest thanks to everyone who participated.

Past Initiatives

In 2011 LTA took on its most ambitious project to date: “The Week of Giving.” LTA members devoted an entire week volunterring at such organizations as MacDonald Training Center, Crisis Center of Tampa Bay, Ronald McDonald House and Diploma-see Program. The group logged over 1,000 collective hours of service.

In 2010, LTA members also took part in Paint Your Heart Out, Fisher House Decorate & Dinner event and the United Way’s Day Of Caring.

In 2009, the Outreach Committee was involved in a number of civic volunteer events — the most significant was the KABOOM playground installation at A Kid’s Place.
