LTA Week of Giving – October 3-8, 2011

LTA members participated in the first ever “Week of Giving” October 3-8. In addition to activities arranged by the Community Outreach Committee, many members also gave of their time to the charity or non-profit of their choice. Totals are still being tabulated and a formal announcement will be made as soon as we have the final numbers.

Thank you to all who participated and demonstrated LTA’s strong commitment to community service.

LTA Kickball Challenge 5-12-2011

The LTA Kickball Challenge featured the LTA “Odd Year” classes against the “Even Year” classes in a classic battle for ultimate glory. Over 40 players gave it their all with the “Odd Years” taking home the first trophy. Who will win the next Challenge?

LTA Experience Event at the Glazer Children’s Museum 3-22-11

LTA members enjoyed the opportunity to ‘”be a kid again” at the Glazer Children’s Museum. Along with enjoying chef prepared paella and heavy appetizers , members took guided tours through the entire museum.

LTA Annual Meeting 2011

We celebrated the 40^th Anniversary of Leadership Tampa at the 2011 Annual Meeting held at A La Carte Event Pavilion. Guests enjoyed the “Historic Tampa” theme with the food & festivities.

The LTA 2011 Leadership Team and new Cabinet members were introduced, and our retiring Cabinet members were recognized. The prestigious Parke Wright III Leadership Award was presented to Jose Valiente (LT ’98). The Kids on the Block program of the Child Abuse Council was presented a grant of $10,000 from the Philanthropy in Action committee.

LTA Community Outreach Project Day of Caring 10-18-10

25 Leadership Tampa Alumni members stepped up to serve the community during United Way’s Day of Caring. Two teams worked landscaping at MacDonald Training Center and sorting clothes at the thrift shop for The Children’s Home. It was a great example of the community outreach LTA extends to Tampa. Special thanks to Doug Arnold (LT ‘09) for his organization of this event.

LTA Community Outreach Paint Your Heart Out 4-17-10

On a bright Saturday morning in April, a contingent of dedicated LTA members assembled in Tampa to participate in PAINT YOUR HEART OUT. This effort of the City of Tampa and others brings caring volunteers to families with special needs, who qualify to have their homes painted in just 24 hours. Nearly a dozen volunteers arrived early and began the project by 8 a.m. The house at East Plymouth in Tampa Heights was a delightful bungalow that was transformed with a bit of hard work. Thanks to all of the LTA volunteers who contributed their time and talent to the activity.

LTA Experience Event at Patel Conservatory 8-5-10

Our August experience event at the Patel Conservatory was incredible. We saw live rehearsals and performances in the many performing arts programs, including the Rock School class. We also collected needed school supplies for AMIKids Tampa for the start of the school year. A special thanks to Lois Older (LT ’92) for planning the event.
